I'm going to date myself here, but I don't care. Toys today aren't fun. Unless it's a video game, there aren't any non-mechanical fun toys. It's like after they invented Atari all the toy inventors gave up. Stuff I used to find fun: Big Wheel - Remember this? It was essentially a big plastic tricycle. You sat on it low-rider style. It was impossible to fall off of and it was indestructible. You can play big wheel derby with your friends and ram into each other for hours. You would be busted up, but the bike would be fine. http://www.feelingretro.com/toys/Ride-On-Toys Legos - These is the best thing ever. A lego kit would keep you occupied for days. Hell, you could even make a lego weapon to hit your friends with. Cool. I think I'm going to get some Legos today to waste away my Saturday with. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legos Sit n' Spin - Basically a wheel with a turner thing in the middle. You would sit on the flat edge part, grap the middle turner thing and turn. You would then spin around and around until you got dizzy and sick. It was really fun to get a group together and eat a big lunch and then bet on who could spin the longest without throwing up. http://www.feelingretro.com/toys/Misc-Toys/sit-n-spin.php Silly Putty - Oh the things you could do with this stuff. You could make it into a ball and bounce it, you could flatten it and mash it on the cartoons page of the newspaper and then stretch the characters faces, you could mold into stuff and so on and so on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silly_Putty Play-Doh - Now this was some fun stuff. Multi-colored "clay". It was soft, and took a long time before it hardened. You could make all sorts of creatures and figures, and best of all you could eat it and you wouldn't die. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play-Doh Ah, all of this retro thinking is making me nostalgic. I think I will go with the wife unit to the maul and pick up some Play Doh - I wonder if it still tastes good with Wonderbread. Trackback(0)

Dude. All that stuff is still out there. My kid spends half his allowance on stinkin' legos every blasted time we hit the Wal-Mart. I just bought some kind of Big Wheel-ish thing that cost a fortune for my twin niece & nephew...one each, man. Play Doh, Sit-n-spin...it's all still there. They've spent gobs just bringing back all the cool old school toys. And guess what...
Today's kids hate 'em. Well, except the Legos, I mean. And yeah, they're eating the Silly Putty. I think the video games are killing their taste buds or something. Either that or it tastes exactly like all those fake fruit snacks on the cereal aisle, so the kids don't know the difference. Legos are a pain in my bass. written by mikey777, July 18, 2008
I always had at least 2 Big Wheels at my disposal at all times. I was a bit kamikaze with those things. I think the reason I miss my Big Wheel so much is that it didn't cost me anything to drive it, and I could crash into whatever I wanted and not be charged with a crime....LoL
I really liked silly putty too. I don't know how, but I could always find like 100 different things to do with that stuff. The paint was probably all lead based too...ahh the good ol' days. written by Ethan Nobles, July 20, 2008
I've got fond memories of those things. Used to beat the absolute hell out of mine and kept my mitts on it as long as I possibly could.
Yeah, I had the holes in the plastic wheels and everything. Thanks for the memories! written by Slacker, July 21, 2008
They still make Silly Putty!!! Damn. That's what happens when you don't have kids, you aren't up on stuff. I'm going to the Toys R Us today so I can get a fix of the Putty.
IMO videos games aren't for little kids. They're too intensely fun. No imagination needed. Video games should only be for teens and lazy adults like me who need help getting stimulated. written by jason, September 19, 2008
How about the orange-colored Tuff Stuff plastic trucks with blue wheels? Or Tonka Trucks. We would sit on them and race down hills. Amazing I didn't grind all my fingers off.
And what about air-hockey or bumper pool at the PacMan/Asteroids arcade? Write comment

But yeah, we had toys that got you outside and around people. Toys today are for the budding sociopath.
hmmm can't forget the ever wicked erector set either...
They still sell silly putty but I think kids just eat it nowdays
